At KMD we place emphasis on the client’s specifications and needs as well as fit and form. Design to Kelly is simply who she is and is also an extension of her heart and hands – something she feels honoured to do every day. Kelly believes strongly that women should feel comfortable, confident and fashionable through a versatile wardrobe therefore, her knitwear range is rooted in sophistication and conveys a subtle beauty.
It all started as a dream. A little girl from a small town playing dress up in her moms' wardrobe. Little did she realize that in just a few years, the same girl would be the owner of her own successful fashion design business, run on the same passion and love that was there from the very beginning. Kelly Dillon, a fashion designer and the owner of KMD, completed her Bachelor of Technology Fashion Design (Cum Laude) in 2011 at NMMU. The year 2011 turned out to be a year of significance, as she entered and won the ELLE Magazine 'Rising Star' competition during her full-time studies. This gave her the confidence and head start needed to start her own brand. Prior to starting KMD in 2013, she went on to win the 'Most Creative Emerging Creative' award at the Design Indaba 2012, as well as collaborating with Mr Price and designed a limited edition female winter collection in 2012. Her work has been featured in countless magazines and has been interviewed on both television and radio for her brilliant work. All of the above, fanning the flame of becoming a successful fashion design business owner. She has since been working in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, as a sole business owner, under Propella Business Incubator which gives young entrepreneurs a platform from which to begin their careers. She works from her studio in Walmer where she creates wedding dresses, matric dance dresses, bespoke (made to order) pieces, as well as designing and manufacturing small fashion ranges (men’s and ladies’).
