Whilst studying fashion design at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and working for a local boutique, Lauren Gravett, founder of Mooi-Mooii, and a varsity friend, Samantha Miller, decided to make clothes for extra income. Little did they know the clothes would be selling fast and prompt them to start their own business.
Mooi-Mooii trades as a fashion designer and lifestyle brand manufacturer business. They use textiles to set their brand apart and their target market ranges from the age of 15 to 60 years and accommodates all sizes.
When prompted on what inspired her to continue working in an industry that is difficult to break through in, Lauren advised: "Love what you do because when you love what you do no matter how tough it gets, you're constantly determined to break-through."
The company's current focus is on manufacturing, proper cut, make and trim through prototyping, testing and evaluation to create sample ranges before heading towards production. They are also in the process of developing their style, employing more staff and expanding the business holistically.
Mooi-Mooii is an incubatee at our Music, Arts and Design (MAD) Incubator in Birdstreet, Port Elizabeth.
